Ashlynn is doing a lot better today, the antibiotics must be doing their job! Her stomach x-rays are looking better and better, the first ones they took yesterday showed that her intestines were a little swollen, they took some more 6 hours later and it showed that they were already improving and have continued to do so today. We still haven't heard anything on the cultures yet, no news is good news there. They have totally weened her off the oxygen but are keeping the little stickers on her face in case she needs it again.
They are putting in a PICC line tonight since she will be on the antibiotics for a few days and she'll be on TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) for at least 7 days since she can't eat for 7 days. It makes me really sad to know she has to go so long without eating, she is getting all the nutrition that she needs from the TPN but it's still really sad. I feel so bad for her. :(
Here is the definition of a PICC line, I was going to try to explain it but this is much easier! Percutaneously inserted central catheters (PICC lines), are long, thin, plastic tubes that travel from a vein in an arm or leg into one of the large veins near the heart. In premature infants, they are used to deliver fluids or medications.
A PICC line is similar to a peripheral IV, but is longer and lasts longer. Premature infants have fragile veins, and peripheral IVs usually last only 1 to 3 days. A PICC line, though more difficult to insert, can be used for 1 to 2 weeks or more.
They weighed her right before I left tonight and she weighed 5lbs 4oz. She looked good and was awake for a few minutes after they took an x-ray. After that I just cuddled with her and she fell right back asleep.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It means a lot to us to know that so many people care. Please continue to keep Ashlynn in your prayers.

I'm glad that her x-rays are looking better and better. And that things are coming back negative. Makes me sad to hear she wont be able to really eat for 7 days. She is a strong girl..with strong parents. And she has family, friends, people that hear her story praying for her. I pray and hope after this she will be strong enough and healthy enough to finally go home. Healthy, Happy baby is what we are all praying for. Love you guys sooo much!! *Brandee
