Happy Halloween!!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and today I was reminded why, it was just perfect! Even the weather was perfect, it was so comfortable and nice.

We ate a light dinner before we headed over to my dad's house to take the kids trick-or-treating in his neighborhood and both kids were kind of acting up. That made us nervous about how the night was going to go! Thankfully things turned around as soon as we got out of the house.

Oh! Let me back up a little. So, before Dawson falls asleep every night I lay in bed with him for a few minutes and we just talk. I let him pick what we talk about. Lately it's been about either his birthday or Halloween (I wonder what we'll talk about now that those have both passed?) and one night while we were talking about Halloween I told him sometimes people will let you choose your own candy instead of handing you one, I told him he needs to be sure to only take one, not a handful because that is not polite. So tonight as we're getting ready to leave he said he hoped that nobody would tell him to pick his own candy. I asked him why and he said that then he'd only get one. I explained that most people only hand out one piece of candy to each trick-or-treater anyway and that we would visit a lot of houses so he didn't have to worry, he'd get plenty of candy. :)

The kids did AWESOME! For the most part they went up to each door by themselves (with their cousins, Hailee and Drea) and me or Dave would just wait at the end of the porch or whatever. Dawson would tell me if they told him to pick his own and he would make sure that I knew he only took one. I was so proud of him. If they told him to pick "some" he would ask them how many he could take. Most people would tell him two but somebody told him to take as much as he wanted! And guess how many he took? Three pieces. I don't know why but that made my heart swell! I was so proud of him. He was so polite and told everyone thank you. He even carried on pretty long conversations with some people, he sure loves to talk. :)

Ashlynn had so much fun running up to each door and trying to keep up with the older kids. (I also need to add that the older kids were so patient with Ashlynn!! And always wanted to make sure she got some candy, too, even if she was a little slower at getting to the door.) Ashlynn yelled "trick-or-treat!" at every house and she didn't need to be reminded to say thank you, she said it completely on her own. All the kids did.

Both kids had so much fun!! It's amazing the joy you feel just from watching your kids have fun. It's the best feeling in the world. I know I say this a lot but I am so thankful for my family and the joy and happiness they bring into my life and the lives of others.

I wish I had more pictures to share but I guess both Dave and I were enjoying ourselves in the moment, watching our cute little kids in complete Halloween bliss. We got home a little before 10pm (we went to my mom's house after my dad's for more trick-or-treating and hanging out with family) and both of kids crashed pretty quickly! I hope they sleep well tonight, they should.

Here are a few pictures that I did get!

This first picture makes me laugh. We were trying to get the kids to smile for the picture so Dave said "who farted?" and of course Dawson started cracking up laughing and Ashlynn started pointing at Dawson. hahahahahaha I love it!

Don't you love our little Spider-Man and our cute little witch?! When I was talking to somebody about what the kids were being for Halloween they told me they were surprised that a two year old chose to be a witch. Surprising or not she totally did! Anytime we'd ask her what she wanted to be for Halloween she'd say something like "scary! I want to be a witch!" I love that she knew exactly what she wanted to be, even at age two! Of course Dawson picked out what he was going to be, too. The funny thing about that is a few months ago, before he had even seen any Spider-Man show or movie, before he had any Spider-Man toys or anything, I asked him what kind of birthday he wanted and he told me Spider-Man! I thought that was a little strange since he had never shown interest in Spider-Man before. But he kept insisting that is what he wanted AND he wanted to be Spider-Man for Halloween! Since then he's seen two Spider-Man movies and watches the shows almost daily. He definitely loves Spider-Man and he knew that before he even knew much about him.

Hailee, Dawson, Drea, and Ashlynn.

Look at all of this candy!!! Both of their buckets are overflowing!

Speaking of lots of candy, we bought two bags of candy in case we got home early enough to get some trick-or-treaters but we didn't so we've got way too much candy on our hands!!!

Oh! And I almost forgot! Ella went trick-or-treating with us, too. She did really well! I decided next year I'm going as Cruella De Vil and Ella is going as a Dalmation. hahahaha Half the people that meet her already think she's a Dalmation (although next year she'll be full grown so I'm guessing it will be super obvious that she's a Great Dane).

One more thing before I go! (yeah, I do that a lot... remember things that I wanted to write about right when I think I'm finished!) My mom took the kids up to a few houses while we were over there and as we were walking away from one house she told me how the lady had two separate bowls and she pointed to one of the bowls and told my mom that the bag said that candy was best for kids ages 6 and up so she thought the little one (Ashlynn) should choose from the other bowl. I don't know why but it made me happy to hear that. I love people, they're so sweet.

I hope everybody had a wonderful and safe Halloween!

Dawson's 5th Birthday!!!

Our baby boy is 5 years old!!! His birthday was on Friday this year which was nice because he didn't have to wait long for his party! The night before his birthday Dave and I decorated his room and the house a little bit with balloons and our usual birthday decorations. And before he went to sleep I had to get a couple of pictures while he was still 4 years old. P.S. I had him cracking up because I told him a fart joke. Mama knows how to get real smiles from her boy! ;)

As soon as he was asleep, me and Dave got to work!

Dawson loved waking up to the all decorations and told me over and over that day that "this is the best birthday ever!" I made him a special breakfast, lunch, and dinner which he loved.

For breakfast I made a Spider-Man pancake with some balloon pancakes, too.

For lunch he grapes (balloons), celery with peanut butter (party style with sprinkles), an apple (Spider-Man!), pb&j sandwich (I tried to make it look like a web), and some crackers.

For dinner he requested "Krabby patties" aka cheeseburgers. I had a theme going all day and I couldn't let dinner be plain and boring so I drew Spider-Man on his cheese. lol (I used the edible markers that I use for my cake pops).

After dinner we sang Happy Birthday to him and we each ate a cupcake.

I love this cute messy face!

Here is the first picture of me and Dawson after he was born...

We sort of recreated it (even my hair was just as messy!) at 9:33PM (8:33 Pacific time, when he was born) on the night of his 5th birthday. <3 br="">

His birthday was great. I love making birthdays extra special and I love all the family time we had.

The next day was his birthday party!

The kids played musical chairs (totally bummed that I didn't think to get a picture while they were playing) and picked out their prizes.

Collin looked away right as I was taking his picture!

After that it was time for cake and ice cream!! Don't you love how is cake turned out?! Other than my red and blue frosting not turning out how I imagined I was pretty proud of it. And best of all, Dawson loved it!

And after that it was time to open presents! He got SPOILED!! He got really, really cool gifts and he was so excited about everyone of them!

Here he is with most of his birthday presents. Arika came over the day before because she wasn't able to make it to his party and gave him a few presents, too.

I need to get up to his room and find a home for all of his new toys! Last night Dave ran to Blockbuster (did you know those still existed? I didn't!) and rented Spider-Man from 2002 (the one with Tobey Maguire) and watched it with Dawson after we put Ashlynn to bed. Of course, he loved it!

His birthday was great, I appreciate everybody who helped make it great, he was definitely a happy boy! Mama and Dada are so proud of the little boy that he is. He's sweet, caring, funny, smart, loving, energetic, happy, and a definite mommy's boy who always has something to talk about. :) :) He can bring a smile to anyone's face no matter how bad of a day they're having. He's just great and we love him to pieces. Happy birthday, baby boy!!!
