Dubai, Take 2

28-31 Dec 2009
Four more weeks out to sea and we pulled right back into the last place we were. This will probably be a little shorter this time since it is our second time here. I did get to go on a tour the first day this time. Not before I took a nap after we pulled in though. I forget why, but I was up late the night before so I slept about 3 hours as soon as they let us go. Then I went on the Sunset Safari tour. By far it’s the most popular one we had here. Most were just tours around the different city areas that seemed pretty boring. This one took us out to the middle of no where in some Land Rovers where we went 4 wheeling in some dunes for a good couple of hours with a couple stops along the way for photo ops. This was the start of the 4 wheeling part.
Some of the ride,
about half way through where the sunset part comes into play.
After we finished up with that we went to a little oasis I guess it would be called and they had some severely over priced souvenirs and a lady doing some henna tattoos. At the entrance they had some camels hanging out too. We just stopped by to say hi when we went in but later went out to take a ride.

They had local food & a belly dancer show for us at the end of the night. The show was fun, the food was ok, the chicken & flat bread were really good. The lamb (I think) was kinda gamey but not too bad. Then we headed back to the ship, in the dark through some of the same dunes we started out on. It was a little nerve racking, the driver was very indecisive about what direction to go through some of it. We obviously made it back just fine though.
The next day we slept in a little, we were going to leave around 10, I think we left at almost 1 instead. None of us seemed to mind too much. A trip to the mall was the only thing planned for day two. I thought the last mall we went to was big, this place could probably fit 3-4 of our malls just inside their parking garage! Four floors and I can’t even guess how many wings it had in it. We got lost a couple times. I wanted some good food, that’s always a priority when we are in port. To me that usually means something American that I’m used to. So we just had some Pizza Hut and an American style sit down place for lunch & dinner. In between we went to see Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey & Jude Law didn’t disappoint. It was fun & pretty action packed. If you know me at all you know that movies are my therapy. I love going, I’ve been known to see 2-3 in a day on some weekends. So it was nice to be able to do that and just relax for a little while. After that I took everyone on an adventure to find a new remote for our TV, I accidentally broke ours a couple weeks ago. This would be mostly where we got lost. I picked up a couple Cinnabon’s on the way out and we headed back to the ship from there. Here are a couple pictures from around the mall. One of them is the directory, it might give you an idea of how big it was. I almost forgot, there is an aquarium & ice rink in there too.
The last day was deja vu from last month, I had duty again. Nothing interesting there really, now we are back out to sea doing circles some where in the middle of the ocean til our next stop. I’m sure you’ll all be on pins & needles waiting as much as I will be.
