4th of July 2012

On the 4th of July we went over to my parents' house for a bbq and after we ate we all headed over to the carnival to ride some rides, play some games, and then watch fireworks. Here are some pictures from our day!

Nana was spoiling Ashlynn by letting her sit on the counter and dig into fruit salad. She was eating it straight from the bowl.

Ashlynn and Dawson rode on horses. (I hate this picture of me, I've gained 20 pounds back and it totally shows!! I need to get back on the losing weight train!)

They both liked riding the horses!

Dawson won a fish and wanted to name him Jesus Christ. We finally talked him into calling him Nemo... (we tried TONS of different names and that was the only one that he would agree to) but Nemo died three days later. Poor fishy! We got some new fish, though, I'll post a pic at the end of this post.

Fireworks! We didn't bring our camera with us, I'm sure you've noticed by now that they're all phone pics, so these aren't the greatest but we enjoyed the show! Dawson loved the fireworks and so did Ashlynn! She only watched them for about a minute, though, before she lost interest and started playing with wipes.

A couple of days after the 4th we had Arika, Hailee, and Drea over and we let the kids hold sparklers.

And throw pop-its. (I think that's what they're called??) The pop-its were definitely all of their favorite.

And then we came inside and ate some Pop Rocks! The kids really enjoyed that, too. I love Dawson's smile.

He thought it was cool to have them popping in his mouth!

After Dawson won the fish at the carnival we decided to go and buy a Ashlynn a fish, too. We decided to keep it simple and bought her a goldfish, too. Then Dawson's fish died. We thought we were in the clear because we had had him for three or four days! So we went and bought Dawson a new goldfish and he died, too!! Dawson didn't even notice for about a week and we didn't say anything to him. When he finally did notice (thankfully he wasn't upset at all) we decided to go buy him another fish and we upgraded to a filtered tank, too. We did just have the fish in a fish bowl but now they've got a big tank to roam around in!

We already had the treasure chest in the fish bowl and we let Dawson pick out a decoration for it, he picked the army man, and with my help Ashlynn picked out the castle. :) Dawson's fish is in the castle in this picture and Ashlynn's fish is about to swim behind it. (Please excuse all the fingerprints, the kids love pointing at the fish!)

We need to buy a couple of plants to put in there because it's a little too plain right now. The kids love looking at the fish and we love that they're easy pets to take care of! :)

I'd have probably done the same as your mom and let the kid sit on the counter. It's what us grandmas do best!

Jesus Christ! It's funny how some names stick with kids.
