4th of July Weekend

What a lovely weekend! Why can't all weekends be 3 days long? haha We spent most of Saturday morning and early afternoon shopping (I think we went to 5 different stores total and had lunch at Subway) and then spent the rest of the day just hanging out at home. On Sunday Dave barbecued some ribs on his new grill for the first time. Actually I think this is the first time we have ever barbecued them, we don't have them very often (probably 3 times since we've been married) but when we've made them in the past we used the crock pot. They turned out really, really good! After dinner we ran to Walmart (more shopping?! *lol*) to get Ashlynn a vibrating teething toy. When she bites down on it it vibrates against her gums. She really seems to like it. :)

Monday was the 4th of July so we all got dressed up in our flag shirts as Dawson calls them. Dave got this cute picture of Dawson giving Ashlynn a kiss...

And I got this one of them both smiling with my phone.

Dawson LOVES to hold Ashlynn, he asks to hold her at least once a day and if she's playing on her play mat (which she does a few times a day) he will always lay down right next to her and play with her.

Anyway, we also took this family picture. Me, Dave and Dawson all have Old Navy shirts on and Ashlynn's onesie says All American Baby at the top and the bottom says Born in 2011. ♥ You can probably see it better in the pictures of her and Dawson. We couldn't pass it up when we saw it, next year I'm sure she'll be in Old Navy shirts with the rest of us.

We went to a Freedom Festival after we fed Dawson some dinner. Me and Dave knew we would want to eat there so we skipped dinner at home. Dawson doesn't eat when we're out doing something fun, he's too busy having fun to eat so we knew we had to feed him before we left. Anyway, the festival was a lot of fun. We've been 3 out of the 4 years that we've lived in San Diego and we've always had fun. They had a whole bunch of booths set up where you could win little prizes (there was a FOX booth that was giving away DVDs, we got 4 movies from them!), tons of food, live music and some little rides for the kids. Everything except the food was free so that was pretty cool.

Dawson went down this inflatable slide twice, he looks a little scared in the picture but he loved it!

There was also a little inflatable maze/obstacle course that he went through, too, that he really liked.

There were these 2 photo booths set up so we decided to get our picture taken. I love how they all turned out, even the random one in the middle of the bottom row. *lol* They make me smile.

We stay at the festival for a few hours and when it started getting dark we found a spot to sit down so we could watch fireworks. Dawson was SO excited when they started, I wish I would have brought the flipcam so we could have gotten video. Ashlynn didn't seem to notice the fireworks much, she just sat in my lap and chewed on her fingers the whole time.

The fireworks were awesome! Dawson really, really enjoyed them this year so that made it even more fun. He has liked them in the past but never really got this excited over them. When the fireworks finished we walked home. We were only about 10 minutes away from home and were thankful that we didn't have to deal with any traffic. It really was a wonderful weekend.

Great pictures! I'm so glad that Dawson had so much fun. Ashlyn was beyond excited about the fireworks when they first started but then when they really got going they were too loud for her. When her ears were covered, though, she loved them. :)
