Dawson's 1st Pony Ride

In my post yesterday I mentioned about a community bbq that me and Dawson went to on Wednesday. Spring Fling is what they called it, time to celebrate spring! I got the flier on my door last week and to be honest I didn't think we were going to go. I figured if they had another one while Dave was here we would go then. But then the day of the bbq came and I saw them setting everything up, we live right across the street from one of the parks that is in our neighborhood. I love being right across the street from it, the view is amazing! I love looking out my window and seeing lots of green. Our views in the past have been really bad. We are usually facing another house that is a few feet away so all we can see is their windows. But now we see this:

Have I mentioned yet that I love it? Because I do. We have a tiny front yard, if you can even call it that, it's just a small patch of grass, but that doesn't bother me at all. Besides decorating for the holidays we never do anything out front anyway.

So, anyway, where was I? On Wednesday I was watching them set everything up for the bbq because they were having it at the park across the street and as I was watching them I decided me and Dawson should at least check it out even if we were to only stay for a few minutes. And then I saw them bring in some ponies! I read on the flier that there was going to be a petting zoo but I didn't know there was going to be ponies! Now we definitely had to go, I had to let Dawson ride a pony!

As soon as it started we headed over there. It was a little windy and cool out so I knew we wouldn't be able to stay too long and I wanted to beat the crowd. We waited in line for a couple of minutes to ride a pony, I wasn't even sure if Dawson would do it but I wanted to try. When I first put him on it he made a face like he was going to cry, but the lady wrapped the belt around him anyway and off we went. I walked right next to Dawson, holding on to him the whole time and he LOVED it! It was about a 3 minute ride which was perfect because I think he was getting a little annoyed with bouncing around so much. The lady took a picture for me, but she didn't get the pony in it! I was a little bummed when I noticed, but oh well.

After the pony ride we went and checked out the petting zoo. They had a gate in the shape of a circle and all the animals were inside the circle. There were bunnies, goats, a pig... I put Dawson inside the gate and although he didn't do much petting, he liked looking at all the animals.

The baby goat was adorable!

Dawson was only in there with the animals for 2 or 3 minutes before he noticed the bowl of water that they had out for the animals and then he ran over to put his hands in it! Yuck! I cleaned off his hands the best I could because next up was food! They had really good grilled chicken, baked beans, salad, rolls and potato salad. Dawson didn't want to eat so he ran around on the grass while I followed right behind with my plate of food. *lol*

They had some games and a craft area for kids but Dawson's hands felt pretty cold so I decided we better go home. They had a cake walk, too, that looked pretty fun, hopefully they'll have another bbq after Dave gets home and we'll be able to spend a little more time out there.

I haven't been here since just before Dave's post! Thanks for sharing. Maybe the reason Dawson didn't pet any of the animals because he was looking for a dog? :-)

Very cool! I love your view. And that is just awesome that you can walk across the street to play or go to community functions like that.
