The Sounds That I Hear

Tonight is the 6th night Ashlynn hasn't had her binky. I am so happy that we decided to take it away and honestly wish we would have done it sooner. I'm so proud of Ashlynn for quitting the binky cold turkey. :P Not that she had much of a choice, but she's doing great without it and I really am proud of her. She's been providing me with lots of free entertainment since getting rid of her binky, too. I put her and Dawson to bed between 730-8pm every night. Dawson basically hits the pillow and he's out (most of the time at least). Ashlynn stays up for at least an hour and plays with her stuffed animals that are in her bed. Even when she had the binky she would do this, she was just much quieter. Now I get to hear her talk, sing, growl, and pant (yes, she was panting like a puppy tonight and I was cracking up laughing listening to her) while she's playing. Last night I recorded a little bit of her singing on my phone. I have a feeling I will be doing that a lot, it's too cute not to capture on video. All that you can see in the video is the sound monitor, but what you hear is adorable. I've been bringing the monitor over to the couch with me so I can listen better.

Dawson is still doing good with his reading lessons. We did lesson 7 tonight and he got super excited when he saw two letters next to each other, he was like I get to read that word!! It's fun to see him so excited about learning.

Speaking of learning, I totally think he's ready to start kindergarten this year but because his birthday isn't until October he misses the deadline by almost two months. And honestly, I don't think I'm ready to send him off to school. But I know it would be good for him. So I'm thinking about starting kindergarten with him on my own. Homeschooling. I need to look into it more but I figure this year would be the year to try it out since he can't go to school. If it goes well then we'll start first grade, at home, when he should be starting kindergarten next year. This isn't set in stone, just something that I've been thinking about and am definitely going to look into. If anybody has any information or tips about homeschooling I would love to hear them.

Anyway, that's it. Probably not the most exciting update ever but I know me, Dave, and the kids will love reading it a few years from now.

I sure do love my little stinkers.

Good for Ashlynn! I remember we first "lost" our oldest's binky when he was only 9 months old. We were on our way back from a driving trip when I tossed it out the window. He did fine but I probably should have let him have it longer. Our middle son got to keep his binky longer and our daughter never even used one.
The kids do just fine without them but there's no harm in letting them have the comfort and security a binky gives them.
You know it's probably to Dawson's benefit that he won't be starting Kindergarten this year. He'll do much better waiting a bit and will give him much more learning skills by not starting early.

I'm so glad that it is all going well with the binky issue. Almost every day I think about homeschooling Ashlyn. I honestly don't think Aaron likes the idea a whole lot, but we will talk about it more soon. She is already signed up for preschool for next year, and she kinda goes to school now at the daycare I work at (she will also be going to preschool there), but I'm still not convinced I won't homeschool her after that. I would love to hear what you officially decide on!
