We marched for babies again this year, it was our third year in a row! We love it. And this was definitely the best year yet. It's going to be hard to top it but I'm already thinking of ways to raise more money next year and ways to have more fun with our team. I really appreciate everyone who supports us, I get really emotional and passionate about raising money every year and to see so many people stand behind something that is so close to my heart is... indescribable, really. Just amazing. This year we had our largest team walking with us and we tripled the amount that we usually raise. TRIPLED!!! We were one of the top raising teams (we came in 4th place to be exact... I'm so proud of that!!!) and I know we couldn't have done with without so many people's help!!! We raised $1,841 this year!!!! When we first started our goal was $700. I figured that was a good goal to shoot for since the previous years we had raised $600 each year. I wanted to beat that. And beat that we did!!!
Now to talk about our amazing team!!! We had 19 people walking for Team Princess Ashlynn this year!!! It was fun to experience it with all of them. Here's a picture of our team after we finished the walk...
Aaron, his wife Jonea and their kids, Mickgavin and Milynn drove down from South Dakota. Not just for the walk but I'll talk more about that in the next day or two. Then there's our family and my dad and Carrie. Next is Dave's mom and dad who flew in from Denver. Again, not for the walk, we just got lucky that the walk was the same weekend that I had a big surprise planned for Dave. And last but not least, Collin, Cammy and Jeremy. :) My friend Jessica and her family were there, too, but we got separated right before the walk started and weren't able to find each other again. She did send me these pictures of her daughters and husband at the walk. :)
We had a superhero theme going on. :) Here's the shirts I made for me, Dave, and the kids. And the rest of our team (most of them at least) just wore superhero shirts. I loved it!
Next year I'd like our whole team to have shirts that say Team Princess Ashlynn on the back. :) :) I'm going to have to slowly make them throughout the year so I won't be too overwhelmed right before the walk next year.
Besides the superhero theme, we also had a few people in tutus...
Dave and my dad agreed to wear tutus if we raised one thousand dollars or more and we did!! Yay!!! Ashlynn loves to wear tutus and Aaron, in the gorilla suit is wearing one because it's Saturday. At least that's what he told somebody on the train ride up to the walk. haha He's hilarious! Speaking of the train ride, let me back up a bit and share this picture because I love it. Dave's mom took it when we were riding the train to the walk.
Dave's such a good sport! (My dad, too!) My dad's friend had let him borrow a couple of tutus but they were more like skirts to me...not poofy at all. So Dave's mom and I made their tutus the day before the walk. I thought they turned out perfect for what we needed them for.
Here are some more pictures from the walk. I thought I had got some from Dave's mom but I just realized that the emails that I sent myself from her phone with the photos never came through. I'm going to have to ask her to send them to me and then I'll add more to this post. :)
Here is Ashlynn before the walk started with the poster that I made... not very many people made posters this year. They usually have them lined up the walk route but this year I think I saw less than 10. It was still awesome to see Ashlynn's there and it made me cry when I saw it!!! Even though I made it! haha I'm crazy.
During the walk....
Ashlynn on Papa's shoulders.
Go Team Princess Ashlynn!!
Afterwards we met up with some friends. I've known Melinda for 4 or 5 years now... but we had only talked online. We had never met in person. We were both in a Due in October group when we were pregnant with our oldest kids and that's how we became friends. We were finally able to meet a few days before the walk and it was so nice to see them at the walk, too!! She's got an amazing family.
Me and Melinda.
Us with Melinda's family. Her husband is deployed right now. And that's her mom, a very sweet lady whom I've also become friends with!
Me and Sydnee, Melinda's preemie. She is truly a miracle!!! She was born at 28 weeks weighing only 1lb 10oz. She had to spend 98 days in the NICU! She is doing so well now!!! She's tiny but she's seriously amazing. She's almost 15 months old and I just saw video of her walking!! I loved holding her. She's such a sweet girl!!!
And I also got to meet A'Jay and his mom, Ralyn. We were talking on the March of Dimes Utah Chapter facebook page and I bought a teddy bear for Ashlynn from their team (with proceeds going to March of Dimes). So when I saw them at the walk I had to run up and say hi! It was nice to meet them. And don't Ash and A'Jay look so cute?!!
